The Black Business Students’ Association would like to welcome you to Columbia Business School. We are excited that you have expressed your interest in Columbia Business School. We truly believe that our MBA program offers a number of unique professional and academic resources for African-American students. We are therefore committed to helping you as you progress through the application process. To this point, we would offer the following pieces of advice to help you navigate the different stages of the application process:
Plan ahead and manage your time effectively
Prepping for the GMAT and finalizing the essays take a significant amount of time, so be sure to allocate enough time to these tasks. Furthermore, we would advise you to spend some time thinking about, and potentially speaking to acquaintances and relatives about the following:
· Your past and present personal, academic and professional experiences.
· Your future short and long-term professional objectives.
· How will Columbia Business School successfully serve as a bridge between the first and second points mentioned above?
Crafting an insightful and credible personal story is an essential first step to tackling the essays and winning the hearts and minds of the admissions’ staff.
Interviews
Successfully working through the GMAT and essays should hopefully position you to be offered an interview by the admissions’ committee. The interview is typically conducted by CBS alums, and will provide them with an opportunity to get to know you on a personal level. It will therefore be important for you to take this opportunity to clearly articulate your story that served as the foundation of your essays.
